Anonymous has stepped up its cyberwar against Islamic State, taking the strategic decision to Rickroll all social media accounts belonging to the militant group.

The hackers collective made the announcement on Twitter yesterday telling supporters of #OpParis to adopt the following hashtags when posting links to Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' video.

They then gave a few helpful suggestions on the types of hashtags you can use:

Rickrolling is not of course a new concept that Anonymous thought up as part of their anti-ISIS campaign #OpParis.

The practice has existed as an internet meme since 2007 and it involves posting links to Astley's song under the guise of it being a useful information.

However, this is the first time the 80s pop star has been recruited in the fight against terrorism and Twitter seemed to appreciate the effort.

Anonymous declared war on the militant group following attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.

Speaking via a video, the hacktivists said:

"Anonymous from all over the world will hunt you down. You should know that we will find you and we will not let you go. We will launch the biggest operation ever against you."
