Accessories queen Anya Hindmarch saw off stiff competition from chef and owner of The River Cafe Ruth Rogers and fund manager Helena Morrissey to win the coveted Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award last night. The ceremony held at Claridges recognised the British designer's achievements as a businesswoman and her contributions to the UK fashion industry.

The British designer created eco hysteria when she produced limited edition £5 canvas tote bags bearing the slogan 'I am not a plastic bags'. Designed to replace the need for plastic carrier bags, the original run of 20,000 quickly sold out and soon were being exhanged for up to £200 on ebay, their popularity fuelled by the fact that the fact they were handed out to A-listers at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. In 2009 Anya was awarded an MBE for her services to British fashion, and she sits on the board of the British Fashion Council.
All in all we think this award it very well deserved. Congratulations Anya!
