These Leaked Images Of The iPhone 7 Suggest Some Drastic Changes Are On The Way

Apple changing the game. Again

A French tech website has leaked images of the iPhone 7, confirming what we've suspected all along about the headphone jack.

NoWhereElse posted pictures reportedly from Taiwanese manufacturer, Catcher Technology, showing rumoured case designs, which suggest that the long-standing port has been axed from the phone.

According to MacRumours, the chassis design "seems slightly thinner than the iPhone 6s, confirming in passing the lack of a headphone jack port".

If the rumours are true, Apple also appears to have removed the antenna stripes on the back of the phone, which makes for a cleaner-looking metal finish.

The tech giant is reportedly using a new material, which allows wireless signals to pass directly through them, Forbes reports.

Included in the alleged changes is the camera slot, described as a "slight bulging outgrowth," being closer to the edge, NoWhereElse notes.

The larger hole also suggests the camera upgrade could be a significant one while several reports speculate that a dual camera setup could be reserved for an iPhone 7 Plus.

Of these changes, the one that has caused the most division among users is the headphone jack.

A petition calling for Apple to keep the "standard headphone jack" has amassed support from just under 300,000 people.

"If the rumours are true, the new iPhone 7 will have a non-standard, proprietary headphone jack -- making every pair of headphones on earth useless.

"Not only will this force iPhone users to dole out additional cash to replace their hi-fi headphones, it will singlehandedly create mountains of electronic waste -- that likely won't get recycled."

We wait with bated breath to see if Apple forges ahead with its game-changing plans for the mobile phone.
