Apple Watch 2 Release Date, Rumours, Price, Battery Life And Features

Here's Everything We Know About The Apple Watch 2

The Apple Watch 2 is on its way so in anticipation of Apple’s new smartwatch here’s everything we know about the Apple Watch 2’s release date, UK price, its new features and specs.

Apple’s first foray into the smartwatch category was, by and large, a complete success. The company shipped millions of units and while it wasn’t perfect, it has been so far the best example of a smart wearable we’ve seen.

New updates to the software like watchOS 2.0 have helped push the Apple Watch’s capabilities even further, giving it more independence from your iPhone.

With the Watch now having been out for over a year, the time has come to start pondering about what the tech giant’s next major smartwatch will look like.

The company didn’t announce a new Apple Watch at its March 2016 event so it seems highly likely that the company will either unveil the next Apple Watch either at the official iPhone 7 event in September 2016.

This would certainly make sense since Apple has been pushing both the iPhone and Apple Watch consistently throughout the year.

As a reminder, Apple unveiled the original Apple Watch at a March event in 2015, it showed off both the stainless steel and brushed aluminium versions along with the first version of its operating system watchOS.

Since then Apple has made some significant updates including watchOS 2.0 and a whole new range of straps.

The original Apple Watch price ranged from £299 all the way up to an eye-watering £13,500.

This was, in part, thanks to the large variety of watches they had on offer from the most affordable Apple Watch Sport to the gold-plated Apple Watch Edition.

Apple almost never drops the price of a sequel product, instead opting for the line that it’s the same price but with more features. That means that while the original Apple Watch might get a price-drop, the new Apple Watch Sport will almost certainly start at £259.

If you want an Apple Watch then again, it’s likely that the cost will start at £479 and go all the way up to £949 for the Space Black with Black Link Bracelet.

Apple Watch 2 Features

Reports from well-known tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities suggest that the Apple Watch 2 will share a very similar form factor to the original Watch but with some powerful new features.

Most notably the Apple Watch will come with a much faster processor. This will come as welcome news after some reviewers found that under intense pressure the original Watch’s processor would struggle.

The Apple Watch 2 will also feature GPS, a barometer and superior waterproofing that’ll mean you can properly taking it swimming with you.

There had been reports that the new Apple Watch would feature the ability to make calls and send messages without an iPhone, however it seems this rumour has since been squashed.

Finally, there are sources claiming that the Apple Watch 2 will be slightly thinner thanks to a new screen which will use a technology called a One Glass Solution. This effectively eliminates one of the layers of glass needed from the screen saving on weight.

Apple Watch 2 Battery Life

While we loved the Apple’s watches features, there was a small issue with its battery life. Thankfully Apple almost entirely solved the short survival rate with watchOS 2.0 which has seemingly extended the Apple Watch’s battery life.

Even with a full day of battery life, Apple’s not sitting still with reports that the Apple Watch 2 will come with a bigger battery.

There’s no word on whether this is simply to compensate for the increased demands of having a GPS sensor or if it’ll aim to increase the battery life in total.
