A controversial fat-figthing injection claims to liquefy stubborn fat so that it passes through urine in a matter of weeks.

The water-based solution, known as 'Aqualyx', works by breaking down fat cells so that they can be absorbed into the blood stream.

Then the fat is passed through the lymphatic system and out of the body via the urine. The process takes approximately three weeks.

The treatment claims to be an alternative to liposuction and creators say it has much shorter recovery time. Patients can expect slight bruising and swelling, which will subside within a few days.

The injections can be used on various parts of the body including thighs, stomach, chin and buttocks.

One session costs £250, but in the majority of cases more than one treatment is required.

Creators claim that once removed the fat won't grow back, as the plant polymers in the water-based solution have eliminated fat cells.

The brand are keen to stress that the product is designed to burn fat, not encourage weight loss.

But some experts warn that the fat-fighting injections could pose a threat to health.

Dr Arun Ghosh, from Liverpool's Spire Hospital told The Daily Star: "It's dangerous to re-absorb fatty acids into your bloodstream because if it's dissolved down into salt it would send cholesterol levels sky high."

Steve Miller says that such injections are a quick fix and do not get to the root of the problem.

"Yet again the UK is looking for a miracle to fight the fat. Injections in my opinion are yet another fad to add to the endless list of quick fixes. They will not deal with the underlying reasons as to why people are fat and long term I am cynical as to how effective they will be.

"Until people realise that a fat body is the result of a lack of motivation and focused mind-set, will we remain the fat man of Europe.

"In my opinion, people are much better advised to work with a clinical hypnotherapist or professional weight loss coach who has expertise in helping fat people break unhealthy habits and create new ones that ensure we eat less and eat better.

"It really is mind over platter."
