If you're all about statement making footwear this summer, you'll be familiar with the flatform trend.
The question is, are they dangerous? According to frequent flatform wearers, and Vogue writer Liana Satenstein, accidental slip-ups are a regular thing.
It's the flat footbed that makes walking on uneven surfaces tricky but many of us are failing to distribute our weight correctly when wearing them.
So what's the secret to walking in these chunky designs without toppling over? Yoga instructor Yamuna Zake told Vogue that it's essential to, "Distribute your weight from your big toes to little toes so you are never keeping all your weight bearing into one point in your foot.
"If you keep your weight in your heels, it is easier to keep the ankles from collapsing inward. This keeps the ankles strong and feminine while also preventing swelling."
Swelling and nose-diving are not ideal when styling out any trend and while flatforms have some serious A-list advocates right now, we recommend opting for a trainer style if you find out yours are pretty dangerous. The Superga styles - as modelled by Suki Waterhouse - are a comfier option.
Don't be too quick to give these shoes the brush-off. Practise makes perfect so wear them in at home and master the struggle of doing the stairs. And FYI super-high platforms circa the Spice Girls in the 1990s is not the look you should be going for.
