A$AP Rocky Speaks Out After Being Temporarily Released From Swedish Prison

The Grammy-nominated star had been held in custody for almost a month, following an incident in Stockholm.

Rapper A$AP Rocky has broken his silence after being released from a Swedish prison, where he’d been detained for the last four weeks.

On Friday evening, it was revealed that Rocky – real name Rakim Mayers – had been temporarily freed until 14 August, when he will discover the verdict of the assault case against him and two other men.

Posting on Instagram for the first time since his release, he wrote: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of my fans, friends and anyone across the globe who supported me during these last few weeks.

“I can’t begin to describe how grateful I am for all of you. This has been a very difficult and humbling experience.”

He added: “I want to thank the court for allowing me Bladi and Thoto to return to our family and friends. Thanks again for all of the love and support.”

Rocky had been detained since July 3, following a brawl that took place in Stockholm on 30 June.

Video of the brawl, which took place on June 30, appears to show Rocky hurling a man to the ground. The 30-year-old claimed he acted in self-defence.

In Instagram videos filmed on the day of the altercation, Rocky can be heard telling two men to stop following and harassing him and his entourage.

“We don’t want no problems with these boys. They keep following us. Look at them. They keep following,” Rocky said.

Swedish public prosecutor Daniel Suneson told AP in a statement that despite Rocky’s “claims of self-defence and provocation,” he’d determined that the actions of the rapper and two others in his entourage had constituted a crime.

Rocky’s detention led to a number of celebrities speaking out to lobby for his release, including Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, the latter of whom encouraged US president Donald Trump to get involved.
