If you've ever watched more than one episode of Gossip Girl, The Hills or any super-addictive TV show in one sitting, don't feel too guilty. You're not the only one.

Mashable's recent report on binge-watching television confirms that 61% of Netflix users watch at least two or three episodes of a TV show in a row. The majority of people who start watching Breaking Bad will finish the whole series in a day.

So why are we so glued to our TV screens? Mashable discusses the findings of cultural anthropologist Grant McCracken who went into the homes of television viewers.

"Bingeing was a welcome refuge from their busy lives, and nearly eight in ten people said binge-watching a TV show made it more enjoyable than watching single episodes," reports the site.

However - TV shows also lure us in because of the effect they have on our brains. Research conducted by a psychologist at Princeton University found TV and film has a way of "controlling" the mind which will keep the audience totally engaged.

Apparently it impacts on our will power too. Sometimes one episode of Game of Thrones just isn't enough.
