Hate Avocados? You Will Love This Smoothie

Confession: I don't like eating avocados. Not sure why, whether it's the slimy feeling, or if I've never tried it under the right conditions, but lately I've been eating avos as if I've always loved them.

This recipe is for a smoothie, ideal for when you've been for a long run and you want a hit of calories, but good quality calories at that.

Last winter we were blessed to have been given a box of avos fresh from the orchard. Now I'm in the UK and luckily for us you can buy frozen avocado halves - perfect for smoothies.

To freeze a fresh avo, or 20, you slice in half, remove the stone and scoop out the flesh into a snaplock bag. When we had our boxload I put two avos to one snack size bag and froze just like that.

When you use the avo, if you completely thaw it out you will probably need to add some lemon juice to stop any discolouration.

But when I make this smoothie I cut off a chunk of frozen avo, put the bag back in the freezer, then chop into slightly small, blender-manageable pieces - no need for lemon juice!

What you need:

1/2 avocado

1 banana

1/2 cup berries (any frozen berries will do, I love it with raspberries and lately cherries)

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

1-2 cups milk to suit (you can use non-dairy alternatives, I've used coconut milk and cow's milk).

Add all the ingredients to your blender, start with 1 cup of milk. Blend, if too thick keep adding milk to suit taste.
