A mum got the shock of her life when her newborn baby opened her mouth – to reveal two perfectly formed front teeth!

Alyssa Bailey was born three days after Christmas with a pair of bottom row gnashers a six-month-old would have been proud of.

Her mum Jaklina said: "Right when she first arrived everybody was just shocked."

Doctors said one in every 2,000 to 3,000 babies are born with teeth and doesn't cause a problem.

However, they told Jaklina, from Missouri, US, to keep watch because if the teeth came loose and fell out, they could be a choking hazard.

In September 2013, new mum Vicki Griffiths chose not to breastfeed her baby girl, Eva Faith, because she was born with two very healthy, very sharp front teeth at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Vicki, a 26-year-old child minder from Redcar, Cleveland, said at the time: "When I came back into the room Steven said, 'she's got teeth, you know!' and then we both burst out laughing.

"We were in shock, and so were the midwives. She had her mouth closed to begin with, so we didn't notice. It was quite bizarre to see them.

"I had been planning to breastfeed, but when I saw Eva's teeth I was put off. I don't think anybody could blame me!"

Jonathan Wyllie, consultant neonatologist at James Cook, said: "It probably happens about three times every two years here and we deliver 4,000 babies a year. It's every 2,000 to 3,000 births.

"Babies are born with one or two teeth and it's usually in the lower gum."
