The Parole Board has recommended that Baby P's mum, Tracey Connelly, should be released from jail.
She was jailed indefinitely, with a recommended minimum term of five years in May 2009, for causing or allowing her son's death.
However, following a second review of her case, the Parole Board has recommended she be freed.
The board said arrangements and the date of the release were a matter for Justice Secretary Chris Grayling.
A spokesman for Mr Grayling said the Parole Board's decision was final.
A statement from the board said: "We can confirm that a three-member panel of the board has directed the release of Tracey Connelly.
"Tracey Connelly first became eligible for parole in August 2012 and at that time a Parole Board panel made no recommendation to release."
Yesterday we reported that following her release from Low Newton jail near Durham, she will be given a new identity and is already having special training to equip her for life outside prison, which will include tips on how she can can conceal her background and true identity.
She has reportedly told acquaintances that she wants to find a partner and have a relationship once she leaves prison, though it is claimed that should she became pregnant, a probation panel would consider putting the baby into care.
She was branded 'manipulative, self-centred and calculating' during her trial in the Old Bailey. But assessments by psychologists and probation officers now suggest that she poses no threat to public safety. It is understood that she has shown remorse for her horrific crimes, which is crucial to her plea for freedom.
Peter died on 3 August 2007 with more than 50 injuries, despite being on the at-risk register and receiving 60 visits from social workers, police and health professionals over eight months.
