Babli had to hire a taxi after her emergency calls for an ambulance were unanswered when she went into labour on 10 December.
Shahnawaz said he asked Babli and her two friends to call an ambulance when he arrived, but they reiterated to him that they couldn't get through to one.
While on the way to Safdarjung Hospital, Shahnawaz said he had to stop because Babli was "writhing in pain".
He told Times Of India: "The trio made a labour room of the cab and helped the woman deliver the baby.
"I pulled out the towels from the seats and poured some drinking water into a bowl. The child was born within minutes and I was really happy to see that he was responding."
Shahnawaz then immediately drove the women to the emergency unit in the hospital.
He was congratulated by doctors and called it the "happiest moment" of his life.
Because of his kindness, Babli said she wanted the driver to name the child, to which Shahnawaz said he would like to name the boy after the company he worked for - Uber.
The baby's name was made official at a naming ceremony on 13 December.
