BREAKING NEWS! Black is back. Yep, the stars have stuck to the classic red carpet shade at the BAFTAs 2013 - perhaps it's got something to do with the rain?
Swedish actress Alicia Vikander was one of the first to arrive in a simple, backless design by Dior.
And surely Thandie Newton tops best dressed list in this lace Louis Vuitton number? Her look was complete with a colour popping pink lip, while Emilia Fox brightened up her strapless Givenchy gown with an emerald necklace and bracelet.
After a series of daring red carpet looks, Anne Hathaway played things a little safe but as always, the actress looked seriously sophisticated thanks to that Burberry gown. Did Amy Adams upstage her in this floor-sweeping design with lace detailing?
Trust Sarah Jessica Parker to turn up in a jumpsuit. At least she looked warm in this Elie Saab outfit.
On to the second look of the night and one of Spring/Summer's most prominent trends - monochrome. Hello, Jennifer Garner in Roland Mouret and Rising Star nominee, Juno Temple (she was the belle of the ball in Stella McCartney).
Gemma Arterton - we applaud you for avoiding monochrome and choosing nude and black instead. She looked radiant as ever in an off-the-shoulder gown:
Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence bucked the black trend too and arrived in a bejewelled, strapless gown from Dior. She kept covered up on the red carpet with the help of an oversized blazer (sensible) paired with jewellery from Chopard.
Thankfully, Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard and Andrea Riseborough added some much needed colour to the BAFTAs red carpet and yep, all three actresses looked AMAZING. Chastain opted for Roland Mouret, Cotillard dared to be different in canary yellow Dior and Riseborough dazzled in Vivienne Westwood:
