Thursday night’s BBC Question Time was always going to be a heated affair as Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith faced off ahead of the Labour leadership election.
And within five minutes an audience member drew boos and a witty riposte after suggesting both candidates should step aside and let someone else “maybe Harriet Harman” stand.
The man said: “The party squabbles have made the party look unelectable, and both of you look unelectable.
“You should stand aside and let someone else maybe Harriet Harman, someone like that, anybody lead the party to victory.”
His comments drew boos from a large section of the audience.
He continued: “It’s 10 more years of Conservative government that nobody wants, especially not you two.
“Just stand aside.”
Corbyn was first to respond quipping: “Thanks for you vote of confidence, I really appreciate it.”
His response drew a mighty cheer from the audience.

Figures seen today undermined Smith’s chances of winning the leadership vote.
His own Labour constituency members are backing Jeremy Corbyn by a margin of two to one, according to new data seen by HuffPost UK.
The figures, gathered by the Corbyn campaign, found that 64% of party members in Pontypridd will vote for the leader, and just 29% for their local MP.
Some 56% of Pontypridd CLP members responded to the straw poll, with 5% saying they were ‘undecided’ and 2% refusing to say.
