Smoky eye makeup is one of the most versatile beauty trends but this season, it's all about a specific look. The shade? Sepia. The mood? Sleepy and shadowy - imagine yourself drinking red wine romantically by candlelight.
As for the inspiration, Matthew Williamson and Roksanda Ilincic were the biggest champions of the look on the Autumn/Winter 2013 catwalks. Paired with glossy lips and glowing skin, the results were amazing.
Backstage at Ilincic, Mac Senior Artist Lucia Pica described the trend as "haunted and otherworldy."
"I wanted to create a shadow effect around the eyes, so I'm also using Mac Mixing Medium in nude and brown tones with a creamy eyeshadow in deep brown," Pica told us "I'm leaving a gap underneath the lashes for depth and a touch of orange Lipmix on the cheek for added drama."
However, if Pica's haunting eyes aren't for you, this tan tint doesn't have to be dramatic.
At Matthew Williamson, Lisa Eldridge created a subtle, sepia eye using Benefit's Smokin' Eyes palette.
And who better to pull off the sleepy-eyed style than Cara Delevingne? Worn with bold, groomed brows and barely any other makeup, the supermodel proved that sometimes, low maintenance beauty is best. Hurrah!
