Normally it’s Eeyore who’s down in the dumps, but a new project has moved that dark cloud over honey munching Pooh Bear instead.
In his new series I am Winnie the Pooh, French photographer Benjamin Béchet uses familiar characters to question the notion of identity.
By kidnapping the characters from their fairytale settings or removing their supernatural powers, he reminds us that an individual is made up of many layers.
Examples include Batman working as a petrol attendant and Snow White being not so pure working as a prostitute.
As well as perhaps making us laugh, Béchet's images remind us that we're all only ever one stroke of bad luck away from hard times, no matter how celebrated we are or invincible we feel.
The project aims “to serve as a reminder that what you see is never what you get, that people are always more complex, that each identity is only partial and that we are all one, none and a hundred thousand,” the artist told HuffPost UK Culture.
