1. A high court ruling declaring the ANC's 2015 provincial elections in KZN void is likely to widen factional rifts in the party and could lead to chaos in the run-up to the national conference in December, when a new president will be elected. 2. A stunning affidavit submitted in court papers by the SA Reserve Bank raises some pretty astute questions about the independence of Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane. She apparently met with spooks from the State Security Agency and the Presidency in the run-up to her Bankorp report and discussed the "vulnerability" of the bank, raising concerns it's next on the state capture hit list. 3. The DA is challenging President Zuma's right to delay a commission of inquiry into state capture, as recommended by former public protector Thuli Madonsela. Zuma wants to appoint his own stooge ... cough, I mean judge, which runs contrary to Madonsela's recommendation that this should be the job of Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. "Does he not trust the wisdom and decision of the Chief Justice," asked advocate Anton Katz. Read here.

Dirty politics aside, TV personality Pearl Modiadie put what really matters in life into perspective with a video tweet that's been shared more than 50,000 times and made us, we'll admit, a bit choked up. In the video captioned "The proudest moment in my life", Pearl's dad is overcome with emotion when she tells him she has bought the family a new house. 5. Anyway, back to dirty politics. Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba is seeking a new anti-corruption tzar to head up the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), which oversees anti-money-laundering systems. He took quite a few people by surprise by advertising the job in a newspaper and putting a two-week deadline on applications. Alarmed by the short deadline, a Treasury staffer who spoke off the record said: "This could be the capture of the FIC." Read here.
6. Did you know some so-called "healthy" foods have the same amount of calories as "unhealthy" foods? For example, a handful of almonds has the same energy as a handful of candy. Fitness blogger Lucy Mountain believes that people should not limit themselves to certain foods, and there's no other way round weight loss than expending more calories than you eat. Bummer. In the latest terrible revelation of teachers abusing pupils, the KZN department of basic education has alerted police about a video where a principal and two teachers appear to be gang-raping a schoolgirl.
