'Coronation Street' star Beverley Callard has given fans an update on her illness, revealing that she has taken a turn for the better.
Beverley had recently been signed off work from the soap with depression, but she wrote on her Twitter feed yesterday: "Had a good day today, things are on the up!"
The actress, who plays Liz McDonald on the cobbles, added that she is feeling positive after seeing a new doctor for her condition. She wrote, "Saw a new doctor today. Got hope!"
And she took time to thank her co-stars, including Simon Gregson and Denise Welsh, for their support of her.
Beverley was reported to have been signed off from work for two months, after she was taken ill on set. Her update will come as a boost to script writers for the show, who have had to rewrite scenes around her absence. Beverley was not able to attend the scenes of the funeral of her on-screen lover Tony Stewart, and she also missed saying goodbye to Coronation Street creator Tony Warren earlier this month.
Beverley has long revealed her battle with depression, and she, like the rest of the cast, was grief-stricken by the loss of her co-star and good friend Anne Kirkbride last year.
Bosses will also be scratching their heads for write-arounds regarding Beverley's on-screen son Steve McDonald, after actor Simon Gregson was forced to take another break from the show, only weeks after his much-hyped return.
The actor will have to take a leave of absence to have shoulder surgery, having sustained an injury falling off a toy scooter.
