A four-year-old boy has died after part of the Hugo Boss shop fitting in Bicester Village shopping outlet collapsed on him.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe hospital on Tuesday but died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In a statement, Hugo Boss said the boy was injured after a mirror fell on him.

"Everyone at Hugo Boss is devastated by this tragic accident and we would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family. All of our thoughts are with them at this time.

"Hugo Boss will assist the authorities in any way with an investigation into the accident."

A company spokesman refused to reveal the size of the mirror or give details of how it fell and whether it fell from height.

He said the store would remain closed until further notice.

The Health and Safety Executive said that they were not involved in the investigation into the death of the boy as shops are the responsilbiity of local authority enviroment health departments

Bicester Village has around 130 luxury fashion and homeware stores plus restaurants and is one of the most popular out-of-town discount outlet villages in the country.

Stores at the village include Armani, Prada, Burberry and Calvin Klein, according to its website.

Police have asked anyone who was in the Hugo Boss store at around 8.40pm on Tuesday to please contact them as a matter of urgency.
