Leicester City star Jamie Vardy is set to marry his fiancee Rebekah Nicholson in a lavish ceremony today.

The final preparations are being made at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire where the couple are due to tie the knot.

The 29-year-old has already postponed his nuptials three times to avoid his footballing commitments but will miss England's friendly against Australia on Friday.

He said: "It will be a very quiet night on Wednesday. Obviously I hope all the guests have a good time but I will have a quiet one.

"I've not got a curfew but at the end of the day I'm a professional and understand what has to be done, so I will be making sure I get plenty of sleep ready to come back in."

Vardy, who was still playing non-league football for Fleetwood four years ago, has cemented his place as one of the Premier League's top strikers this season.

He scored 24 goals for Leicester as they surpassed all expectations to clinch the Premier League title and has also bagged three goals in as many games for England.

According to the paper, Miss Nicholson met Vardy in January 2014 when she was working in events and helped organise his 27th birthday party, with the couple having a daughter Sofia together.

In an interview with The Daily Mirror, the soon-to-be Mrs Vardy said she took a while to take a shine to her future husband.

She said: "It certainly wasn’t an immediate attraction when I did meet him. It took a lot of persuasion on Jamie’s part to get me remotely interested.

"I must have said ‘No thanks I’m not interested’ for the best part of two months - he was very persistent though, asking me to go for a drink.

"It’s just the same as with his career – he never gives up! But he won me over or we wouldn’t be sat here now."

Given that Vardy is expected to star for Roy Hodgson's men at the European Championships this summer, the post-wedding plans have been put on ice.

He said: "There is no honeymoon. I'll have to take that next year some time."
