For those of us without so much as a tiny star on our wrist or a tribal marking on our shoulder, there’s something fascinating about people who turn their bodies in canvasses for art – particularly when they take it as far as Japanese student Chooo-San.
She transforms her limbs and face into surrealist artworks that look like body mutations from a sci-fi movie - though thankfully only using acrylics, meaning it can at least be rubbed off at the end of the day.
Mouths gape open at the side like split pillows, eyes peer out from the back of hands and batteries protrude from forearms in a series of carefully painted optical illusions that, if we’re honest, creep us out more than a little bit.
Gob-smacked: one of Chooo-San's bizarre Tumblr pictures
Chooo-San’s creations stemmed from the kind of idle doodling we can all remember indulging in if we cast our minds back to university.
In between bouts of study, she’d draw eyes and other objects on her hands – until she decided to take it a step further.
What do you think? A nod to our anxieties over body modification and technology? Or just the coolest Halloween party get up ever?
