A plucky five-year-old boy was left with injuries after he tried to stop a robber from snatching his mum's jewellery during a street attack.
It is reported that the little lad was pushed to the ground as he and his 28-year-old mum tried to fight off the attacker in Leicester.
The thief snatched the woman's gold necklace after approaching her from behind and grabbing the chain from her neck.
The Leicester Mercury reports that the incident happened in the Humberstone area of the city on May 31, and has left the mum and child frightened.
Detective Constable Louise Osborne told the paper that the offender had 'no regard for the affect the incident would have' on the woman and her little boy, and appealed for the public's help in catching him.
"The necklace was broken during the incident and we would like to speak to anyone who has been approached by someone selling a similar item of jewellery," she said, adding that the stolen necklace was 22 carat gold with a gold flower set with a diamante stone at its base.
The attacker was described as black, in his early 20s, around 5ft 7ins tall and of skinny build. He had a small moustache and short black hair.
