A Texas man fined for driving at 39mph in a 30mph zone has decided to vent his frustration at a $212 speeding ticket by paying entirely in pennies.
Brett Sanders called the charge "extortion" and said he wanted to make the government work for the money.
"When my fine came due, I just decided I may as well pay with pennies and we'll make a big spectacle of it," Sanders told NBCDFW. "It felt great. It really felt great."
Rather than pay in a conventional manner, Sanders poured over 20,000 pennies into a pair of buckets and emptied them onto a clerk's desk.
Reports say he actually overpaid by $7.81, but he was happy to let them keep the change.
"I’m just going to go ahead and let them keep that,” he said.
Despite the fact Sanders claims he "didn't endanger anybody's life", many people have been calling him out online for his brash actions and the fact that he was actually breaking the law.
Others lambasted Sanders for punishing the employee for something that wasn't her fault, causing the clerk to spend hours counting the coppers despite not actually issuing the ticket, creating the speed limit or making the laws.
