Britain’s Got Talent bosses have announced that this year’s series has been postponed due to lockdown restrictions.
Producers had planned for BGT to begin filming at the end of this month, with the ITV talent show supposed to return to our screens in its usual spring slot.
However, with England now back on lockdown, bosses have made the decision to delay the upcoming 15th series.
An ITV spokesperson said: “The filming for the 15th series of Britain’s Got Talent has been postponed from its proposed record dates in late January.
“With the announcement of the latest Government health guidelines and with our priority of safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved in our programmes we, together with the production teams at Thames and Syco, have taken the decision to move the record and broadcast of the forthcoming series.”
The new filming dates will be confirmed “in due course”, the ITV rep added.
Last year’s BGT auditions were filmed before the UK first went into lockdown in March, but the live shows were postponed until the autumn, going ahead without a studio audience for the first time.
The 14th series was eventually won by comedy singer Jon Courtenay, who charmed viewers with a song reflecting on the major news events of 2020.
In October, filming on the first-ever Britain’s Got Talent Christmas special was also briefly put on ice, when several crew members had to go into self-isolation after a colleague tested positive for Covid-19.
