A British aid worker was one of two people shot dead after gunmen stormed a holiday resort in Nigeria.
The British High Commission confirmed the death of Faye Mooney, who was identified by NGO Mercy Corps, her employer.
Her family has been notified.
A Nigerian citizen was also killed and three further people kidnapped, according to local police.
Neal Keny-Guyer, CEO of Mercy Corps, said in a statement that Mooney was “tragically killed” while on holiday in Kaduna State in northwest Nigeria.
Police said Mooney was part of a tourist group of 12 people travelling to the resort from Lagos.
The organisation paid tribute to Mooney as a “dedicated and passionate” communications and learning specialist, who had previously taught in Iraq and worked to fight human trafficking in Kosovo.
“Faye was deeply committed to fostering cross-cultural collaboration and was an inspiration to us all,“ Keny-Guyer said.
Mooney, a graduate of University College London and the London School of Economics, had been working for the organisation for nearly two years.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to those who have been affected by this senseless tragedy, including her family, friends and all of our team members in Nigeria who knew her and loved her.”
