Dad Takes A Stand For Mums Told To 'Cover Up While Breastfeeding' By Eating Under A Blanket

Brock Smith said he and his partner are 'starting a movement',

A dad has set out to prove covering up while breastfeeding is “asinine”, by eating dinner with a blanket over his head.

Brock Smith, from Florida, US, said he’d had enough of the argument that women should not able to freely breastfeed in public.

So he and his wife Lauren Smith have “started a movement”.

Using a series of sarcastic hashtags, including #‎breastfeedingisSOsexy #‎lactatingnipplesareoffensive and #‎eatingunderablanketiscooliguess, Smith shared a video of himself wearing the blanket in a restaurant.

“Ah, I wish I didn’t have to eat with a blanket over my head,” Smith can be heard saying in the video

“Maybe I should just go sit in the toilet.”

Smith also uploaded a photo of him with the blanket completely over his head so he can’t see anything, as well as one of him lifting it up to put food in his mouth.

The photo collage, shared on Facebook on Sunday 3 July had nearly 7,000 views within a week.

It was also shared on the Facebook page Breastfeeding Mama Talk on Wednesday 6 July, where it was viewed nearly 150,000 times within five days.

“This is such an important message for everyone,” one mother commented.

“Sex is used as a means of advertising and is on billboards across the country yet, breastfeeding is frowned upon.

“I think we have things a little backwards in today’s world.”

Another mother, who agreed with the message the Smiths were trying to send, wrote: “I got yelled at by an old man the other day - my seven-month-old daughter who refuses to take a bottle was screaming her head off because she was hungry after we went on a run so at the end of the run there is a bench I sat down and fed her... Duh.

“I tried being as discreet as possible but this man thought it was disgusting!”

When asked what prompted Smith to shared the video, he commented: “Lauren and I always talk about it - how women have to feel anxious when feeding their babies when they’re out and about.

“We would never not cover Lauren up... but the ignorance of some people just prompted the idea.”
