Former RuPaul’s Drag Race finalist Brooke Lynn Hytes has made herstory as the first former competitor to ever land a permanent judging role.
Brooke finished as the runner-up of this year’s series behind reigning champion Yvie Oddly, after impressing the judges with her polished approach to drag and impressive dance abilities.
The Canadian queen has now confirmed that she’ll be joining the judging panel when the show makes its debut on her home turf.
“I remember a year ago I was in [World Of Wonder, the production company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race]’s offices, just after filming season 11, and I said ‘I want a Canadian Drag Race… and I want to be a judge!’,” she tweeted. “Well, dreams come true!”
The Canadian version of Drag Race is to debut next year, with the other judges and its host to be confirmed at a later date.
RuPaul will not be involved in the Canadian series, but will be at the centre of a new British version, which debuts on BBC Three next week.
She’ll be joined by her usual right-hand woman Michelle Visage, alongside Alan Carr and Graham Norton, who will be in a rotating judging role.
The series’ guest judges have also been confirmed, including Spice Girls singer Geri Horner, Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams and actor Andrew Garfield, who appears in the first episode.
RuPauls’ Drag Race debuted in the US in 2009, and has gone from strength to strength, winning a total of 13 Emmys.
Filming recently completed on the show’s 12th series, while a fifth All Stars series has also been confirmed.
As well as the upcoming British and Canadian versions, Drag Race Thailand has also proved successful, airing its second season earlier this year.
