A company in Oklahoma has created something that really shouldn't exist: a bulletproof blanket for kids in schools.
The Bodyguard Blanket is essentially a bulletproof pad which kids can hide under during natural disaster or if something altogether more sinister took place.
The mat is made from a material called Dyneema which is used by US Soldiers due to its high-density composition and the fact that it's substantially lighter than Kevlar.
According to ProTecht the blanket can provide bullet resistance from 90 per cent of the weapons that have been used in school shootings in the US.
Speaking to The Oklahoman, the Bodyguard Blanket's creator Steve Walker explains that it wouldn't just be used for protecting against bullets saying, “We’re trying to stop that blunt-force trauma when that rubble is falling down on a child, for instance,”.
The mat also features straps allowing kids to wear the Bodyguard Blanket as a backpack.
