A woman who was abandoned in the bathroom of a Burger King as a baby, has been reunited with her mother.
Katheryn Deprill, who has been dubbed 'The Burger King Baby,' hit the headlines earlier this month after posting a photo on Facebook in which she holds up a handwritten note asking for help to find her birth mother.
Now the 27-year-old's biological mother has contacted her after seeing a story about the Facebook campaign on TV.
"I got the hug that I had wanted for the last 27 years, and that broke the ice," Katheryn told abc news. "I asked if I could have it, and she said, 'absolutely,' and just held her arms open, and the rest is history."
Katheryn has so far declined to identify her mother but described her as 'a normal person,' who is 'very loving.'
Katheryn was just a few hours old when she was found wrapped in a red sweater in the bathroom of a Pennsylvanian fast food restaurant in 1986.
She was adopted by Brenda and Carl Hollis and is now a mother-of-three and an emergency medical technician.
Katheryn has said that she was motivated to find her biological mother partly by a desire to learn more about her medical history.
She launched her search on March 2, when she posted a photo on Facebook of her holding up two pieces of paper on which she had written the details of her birth and asked for help finding her biological mother. The post has now been shared more than 32,000 times.
Katheryn and her mother met for their emotional reunion in the offices of attorney John Waldron.
Waldron said that Katheryn's mother had already decided to try to find the baby she had given up as a teenager. He added that all the media coverage about Katheryn's search made it easier but also, "scared Mom a bit. She did not want to be in the limelight."
According to Waldron, Katheryn's birth mother had been raped while traveling abroad and became pregnant.
She told him that she managed to keep her pregnancy a secret from her parents, but when she gave birth in her bedroom she knew she could not take her baby to hospital without questions being asked.
"She left the baby in a location where the baby would be found and cared for. She kissed the baby on the forehead, Katheryn, and left," said Waldron.
After the meeting, Katheryn said her mother "was extremely upset that she had to leave me and it wasn't what she wanted, but she felt she had no other means.
She left me somewhere she knew I'd be found. She did not want to throw me away.
Katheryn said her birth mother had answered all her medical questions and that she wants to be involved in their lives. She hopes they will meet again soon.
