A judge has barred a man from having control of his sick elderly mother's finances after branding him "callous and calculating".

Judge Denzil Lush said the man had not paid his mother, who was in a nursing home, a personal allowance for more than a year.

The judge said the man "even begrudges her having her hair tinted".

Judge Lush analysed the case at a hearing in the Court of Protection, where issues relating to sick and vulnerable people are considered, in London after concerns were raised about the way the man was handling his mother's money.

The judge said the man had worked for Ernst & Young, a firm which specialises in financial affairs.

He said no one involved could be identified.
