Calvin Harris has revealed that he had to have his heart restarted in hospital at the height of his fame.
The Superstar DJ casually mentioned his ordeal as he shared a clip of himself playing a gig in 2014 on Twitter.
“Interesting year for me 2014,” he tweeted. “Started with me knocking myself off number 1 in the UK and ended with my heart getting restarted in the ER... this sort of stuff happened in between.”
The 36-year-old Scottish star has previously spoken about suffering from arrhythmia, a problem with the heart’s rhythm that affects two million people in the UK, but this is the first time he has revealed the severity of his condition.
The same year he was admitted to A&E, Calvin was forced to pull out of the MTV Europe Music Awards in Glasgow after a heart scare, which he later confirmed was arrhythmia.
It led to him giving up alcohol and following a healthier lifestyle, which he said has made a “noticeable difference” to his life.
“Things are a bit less fun but haven’t had an arrhythmia since 2014” he previously said.
“Wouldn’t dream of encouraging anyone to drink two bottles a night and live off the baker – got me in a right old state.”
One year after ditching the booze, Calvin became the face – and body – of Emporio Armani, starring in a series of memorable underwear ads for the Italian fashion brand.
