SABC3 soapie "Isidingo" recently turned 19 years old and the celebration party was one for the books.

Held at the Gold Reef City on Thursday night, cast members and the who's who of showbiz came together and toasted to many more years of the show, which is based on the gold mines of the fictional Horizon Deep.

The show's executive producer, Pumla Hopa, said the success of the series lies in its story lines, which appeal to the South African public, investigating the various facets of life. Hopa said touching, real-life moments have transformed the fictional mining town into a household name.

"An amazing team of writers, new faces, together with the recognisable and reputable talent, have all contributed to the 'Isidingo' success of the last 19 years. Hopefully, the series will be around for many years to come," Hopa said.

If you're wondering what's next on the show, be at ease -- exciting narratives are planned for the forthcoming months.

This should put you in the picture:

  • Widespread conflicts will be experienced between Barker, Nikiwe Sibeko and Ofentse Moloi, over the merging of the two mines, which will culminate into a huge event blow out involving the Deep's most disliked magnate. Will Barker survive this ordeal?
  • Georgie feels that life is passing by too quickly and decides to have a family reunion and in doing so he believes he has discovered a new son in Matlala. The story becomes quite gripping as it develops.
  • Gabriel makes a sudden return to Horizon Deep. What are his expectations from Nikiwe and the mining folk?

Happy Birthday, Isidingo...keep keeping us glued to our screens. Phambili!
