The owners of a historic pub who demolished it without warning have been ordered to rebuild the whole thing brick by brick.
Tel Aviv-based developers CLTX Ltd will be ordered to “recreate in facsimile the building as it stood immediately prior to its demolition”, according to the Evening Standard.
The owners of the Carlton Tavern in Maida Vale, west London, caused outrage when they told staff to stay at home for an inventory then proceeded to bulldoze the 1920s-style building.
The 1920s building was demolished without warning
According to the Mail, the demolition took place just days before the pub was due to be recommended as a listed building and was knocked down to make way for luxury flats.
This was despite the fact that a planning application for such development was rejected.
At the time, councillor Jan Prendagast, Conservative member of Westminster City Council, said: “I’m horrified for the local residents that this has occurred. It came as such a shock to everyone.

“There was no prior warning to the council, no approvals and no proper health and safety procedures in place.
“This was a lovely pub and I'm sorry to see it go, but I'm more concerned for the residents in Maida Vale for whom they showed no consideration whatsoever.
“It was the last building standing in Carlton Vale after the Second World War bombings.”
But locals have had the last laugh now that council chiefs are set to issue an unprecedented enforcement notice forcing the owners to rebuild the pub exactly as it was.
CLTX Ltd will also not be able to sell the site until the pub has been restored.
The owners are appealing the decision, according to the Standard.
