This week the world celebrates Charles Dickens' 200th birthday.
Although he is not around to celebrate in person, his presence is as strong today as it has ever been.
For many of us, Dickens' characters are comforting and familiar, like old friends we look forward to catching up with every so often.
They, and the stories we find them in, were shaped very much by the author's own incredible rags to riches tale; from an impoverished childhood spent working under harsh conditions in a factory, to becoming a journalist and author, performing in front of Queen Victoria and lecturing against slavery in the United States.
