Chelsea's Spanish striker Diego Costa is not the most popular person on Merseyside this morning.

Liverpool crashed out of the Carling Cup during the semi-final stage last night after a valiant effort against the Premier League leaders, after losing over two legs.

The big Chelsea forward used every inch of his 6' 2" frame to out-muscle, lawfully or unlawfully (in some eyes) the Liverpool team at Stamford Bridge.

Costa had confrontations with just about every single Liverpool player on the pitch and had running battle with Martin Skrtel for 120 minutes. Diego Costa was also fortunate to stay on the pitch as the referee failed to spot his 'stamp' on Emre Can's ankle in the 12th minute.

Thierry Henry, speaking on Sky Sports after the match said “You can see clearly that he meant that, I love the passion, I love the aggression but I think he went too far there. I think it was a red but the ref didn’t see it, the linesman didn’t see it and the fourth official didn’t see it.”

Diego Costa could still face retrospective punishment from the Football Association if match referee Michael Oliver includes in his report that he did not see the incident.
