Cheryl Cole’s former bandmate Nicola Roberts has sprung to the singer’s defence, after being heavily criticised on social media for her decision to marry her new husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini after just three months of dating.

Cheryl broke the news on Monday that she’d tied the knot with her French beau just over a week ago, but while her fans and supporters were quick to congratulate the ‘X Factor’ judge on her new marriage, some critics - including Ms. Rent-A-Gob herself, Katie Hopkins - felt that she’d been a bit hasty in walking down the aisle with a man she only met earlier this year.

However, Nicola has publicly lent her pal her support, taking to her Instagram page to write: “You can be in a relationship for two years and feel nothing; you can be in a relationship for two months and feel everything.

"Time is not a measure of quality; of infatuation, or of love."

You tell ‘em, Nicola.

Meanwhile, although Cheryl and Jean-Bernard kept their intimate wedding a secret from the press - and everybody else, apparently, with only four guests believed to have been in attendance - it’s believed the wedding took place on the remote island of Mustique.

The Mirror are reporting that the ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ singer and her new husband flew privately from London to St. Lucia - setting them back £9000 each - followed by a flight from St. Lucia to Mustique, costing around £10,000 a return.

They’re believed to have got married at Macaroni Beach, with their big day being organised by the luxurious Cottons House resort. When quizzed for details about the celeb wedding of the year, a representative for the resort told the newspaper: “I’m afraid I have signed the official secrets act on all of that.

“We can’t really discuss those things, they asked specifically to be private.”

The Mirror have also reported that Cheryl - who is believed to be changing her surname from Cole to the slightly fancier Hernandez-Versini in honour of her recent nuptials - will have a second bash in the UK, so her friends and family who couldn’t make it to Mustique can join in the celebrations too.
