A mum claims her four-year-old son was expelled because she complained about his school on Facebook.
Ashley Habat was annoyed that her son Will's school had not given parents more notice about the date they were taking school photos, so she decided to vent her anger on Facebook.
"Why is it that every single day there is something new I dislike about Will's school?" she wrote. "Are my standards really too high or are people working in the education field really just that ignorant."
Ashley posted the message on her personal Facebook page, but because she tagged her son's school in the post, staff at Sonshine Christian Academy in Florida were able to see what she had written.
When Ashley took her son into school the next morning she says she was told by school administrators that her son was no longer welcome.
"They just felt like we weren't the right fit of parent relationship with the school and that they didn't want him as a student anymore. He had done nothing wrong," Ashley told WPTV.
A letter of dismissal given to Ashley from the school said she 'utilised social media to call into question not only the integrity but the intelligence of our staff. These actions are also consistent with sowing discord, which is spoken of in the handbook you signed.'
"I was in shock," Ashley added. "Why would you expel a four-year-old over something his mom posts on her private Facebook page only people on her friends list can see."
