That's right. China has been carefully and rigorously checking the anuses of 10,000 pigeons ahead of a mass-release in celebration of China's National Day.
According to state-run media, staff performed 'anal' checks on all 10,000 pigeons after fears that bombs might have been smuggled through in the Pigeons' rears.
Mr Yang, a renowned pigeon expert who runs the pigeon appreciation site China Pigeon Net spoke to the New York Times confirming that Chinese officials were right to be concerned.
“I have not heard of pigeons released at National Day requiring security checks, but it is possible for them to carry things such as explosives, they could carry something on their legs, under a wing, or in their anus.”
The NYT goes on to report that Chinese officials are concerned that after an increasing number of threats from separatist groups the National Day celebrations will be a prime target for any criminal activity.
