Chris Evans has opened up about the “apocalyptic” atmosphere left behind when Jeremy Clarkson was axed from 'Top Gear'.

The presenter will take over at the helm of the BBC show later this year, when it returns to screens for a brand new series, and has admitted he has big shoes to fill.
He told the audience at the Television Critics Association, as reported in the MailOnline: “'I like the old show. It was brilliant there’s no denying it.
"If the old show had never been taken off I’d still be watching it.”

Chris went on to say that while Jeremy and his co-presenters, Richard Hammond and James May, definitely made an impression on viewers, “the car is the star” on ‘Top Gear’, and that’s the way he intends to keep things when the new series airs.
‘Top Gear’ is currently slated to return to screens in May, and while it’s not yet known who’ll be joining Chris on the presenting team, unconfirmed reports have suggested that Sabine Schmitz and Chris Harris will complete the line-up.
The BBC recently stepped up to shoot down rumours that the new series of ‘Top Gear’ was in “crisis”, due to a string of mishaps behind the scenes, branding the claims “gossip” and “nonsense”.
They also refuted suggestions that Chris was struggling to drive while also talking to the camera, saying in a statement: “This story is complete nonsense and the truth is that ‘Top Gear’ producers have been blown away by how quickly Chris has taken to talking to camera whilst driving at speed, a skill which has taken some presenters a long time to master.”
