Chris Evans’ wife Natasha Shishmanian has given birth to boy and girl twins.

The couple’s news was announced on the Radio 2 Breakfast show on Thursday September 20, when presenter Sara Cox read out a statement from the proud dad.

“Ping and Pong arrived safe and well last night,” the statement read. “Ping popped her head out at 22.10, Pong popped his head out 12 minutes later at 22 minutes past 10. Both healthy, both strong, happy and blessed, as was mum throughout. Infinite thanks to the amazing team at Frimley Park Hospital, amazing people, amazing professionals, helping dreams come true. Thank you.”

As regular listeners to the show will know, Evans, 52, nicknamed his babies Ping and Pong during his wife’s pregnancy, but rest assured these “working titles” won’t actually be the names of his twins (we think).

Nor will the news of their birth come as much of a surprise to BBC Radio 2 listeners, as Evans had previously said on air that his wife was going to be induced on Wednesday September 19. “Tonight is our last night as a four,” he said the day before. “We’ve done a lot together and tonight’s our last night as a four-piece, We go to a six-piece tomorrow, which is very exciting but you know what I mean.”

Evans and Shishmanian, who wed in 2007, have two older sons: Noah, nine, and Eli, six. Evans is also dad to 32-year-old Jade from a former relationship.

The couple announced they were expecting twins in April 2018 and were very open about the fact Shishmanian had been through IVF to fall pregnant. Speaking on his radio show at the time, Evans said: “Mrs Evans is [pregnant], she is. Double trouble, twin turbo. We have known for a while, obviously.”

Congrats to the new family of six!
