A Christmas 'angel' anonymously paid for £12,000-worth of customers' Toys R Us reserved gifts in a random act of festive kindness. The customer - described by staff as a bubbly older woman - was said to have offered the manager of the store in Bellingham, Massachusetts a hug as she made the kindly gesture, adding: "If you have it, give it."

The Milford Daily News reported that the woman paid for all items in the store's reserved list - a move she said would help her 'sleep better at night'.

Toys R Us says the woman is just one of a number of people who have 'paid it forward' for fellow customers in the last year.

A spokesman for the retailer said: "With the holidays here, people look for interesting ways to spread some cheer."

One mother, who was shocked to learn that the gifts for her two sons had been paid for, said: "I almost wanted to cry."

"It was only $50, but to me that's a lot of money, and that someone would go and do that gave me chills.

"What she did was so caring and thoughtful. I feel like I was part of something special – touched by an angel."

Mum Emily Burlingame said she found out about the random acts of generosity when she went to pay her balance.

She said: "I just went to go pay, and (the cashier) said that the layaway angel took care of the balance.

"It's a very nice surprise. Thank you to the layaway angel. Very nice."
