John Huntington is trying to convince his fellow Australians that chickens make a natural pet.

Bored of conventional pet choices such as cats, dogs and goldfish, Huntington is leading the way on an urban chicken movement. The chicken expert admits that there are problems with owning the birds in the city, but he advises on suitable coops and the right breed for the urban dweller.

Huntington advises against noisy roosters, but hens have the added bonus of laying eggs, as well as making for friendly companions.

Huntingdon even keeps his indoors by using nappies because he has not yet found a way to house train them.
