There's no doubt Karl Lagerfeld is a fashion titan. Though, when it comes to the house of Chanel, the question of how he reinvented a French label so iconic remains.
Tim Banks, editor of Style.com, talks fashion superhero Karl Lagerfeld in this video which looks at how the Kaiser took over the reins at Chanel and continued to build its empire.
Yes, he's talking those signature tweeds, pearls, boucle jackets and quilted handbags a la Coco but also the way that Lagerfeld referenced her original attitude towards fashion.
"He managed to take what she had created and project it into the future" says Banks.
"She wanted to free women and she wanted to bring them into a modern era where they were independent" and that's the route that Lagerfeld took too says Banks.
