Coffee With bad news and World Anxiety

Coffee With bad news and World Anxiety
|

Gaddaffi whose whereabouts are still unknown refuses to admit his defeat. The president of Syria Bashar al-Assad tightens his iron grip and orders to shoot his freedom-hungry people. Belarus' Lukashenka hates democracy. The police of Tampere, Finland, are searching for disappeared 15 year-old Karoliina and fear the worst. Economy experts whisper an accursed word heard not long ago: 'recession'. Gurao and Xintang languish in the pollution created by the textile industry....

My coffee this morning wasn't too cheerful, I must say: coffee with bad news and world anxiety, instead of sugar and cream; a lethal concoction. Not recommendable.

I still read the paper in the mornings, though for a wider view I open the computer and surf the main international On-line papers... too much, definitely far too much. The world is overwhelmed by sickness and destruction. But as my dear grandmother used to say: 'One shouldn't live inside a sack'. Or should one?

The more you know, the better, they say. I wonder if this is finally true. On the other hand, a wide prospect and the knowledge of diverse points of view will certainly aid to maintain a tolerant, understanding attitude towards things. The more you know, the better you know how little you know. And this makes you humble. When you are humble, you are less aggressive and less willing to impose your ways on others; thus you respect more life.

Knowing the wrongs of the World saddens the heart, but it also opens the eyes.

Is there anything the small 'I' can do to improve things? The older I grow, the stronger is scepticism in my mind.

But we shouldn't lose all hope, should we? Maybe there is something tiny we could all do to slowly make a change, following the principle of the butterfly effect. Humbleness. As long as we stay humble, we stay open, and there will be room for understanding and not judging, hence for love.
