Not Every MMA Fan Is Pleased With That 13 Second Knock Out

Mixed martial arts fans spent much of the night, and lots of their hard-earned cash, in anticipation of the weekend's UFC featherweight title bout - only for Irishman Conor McGregor to knock out his opponent Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds.

McGregor pounced on the Brazilian by turning his opponent's righthand lead into a smooth left finisher to the jaw, throwing him cold to the canvas.

The Las Vegas match took place at 5 am UK time, meaning many British fans spent the early hours building excitement for the bout.

And for avid MMA fans, the anticipation meant that McGregor's impressive speed served as a somewhat expensive anti-climax.

“No power, just precision," McGregor told reporters following the fight.

“No speed, just timing. That’s all it takes. These are four-ounce gloves. That’s all it takes.”

McGregor becomes UFC Featherweight champion after Saturday's match held at the MGM Grand in the gambling oasis.

McGregor wrote on Instagram: "To the naked eye it was 13 seconds, but to my team and my family it has been a lifetime of work to get to that 13 seconds."
