‘Coronation Street’ bosses have taken the decision to sack actress Katie Redford, after it emerged that she had lied about her age.

It was announced last week that Katie, who claimed to be 19 years old, had been cast as Sarah-Louise Platt’s trouble-making teenage daughter, Bethany, a character who will be returning to the soap after a seven-year hiatus later this year.
However, some ‘Corrie’ fans began to grow suspicious after public records and online profiles listed Katie’s date of birth as 2 March 1989, which would actually make her age as 25.
Katie Redford will not be playing Bethany Platt after all
What’s more, until it was confirmed that she’d been cast in the role last week, her Twitter handle had been @KatieRedford89, which she promptly changed to @KatieRedfordtlc after the announcement.
It was confirmed on Monday morning that ‘Corrie’ bosses would be “looking into the discrepancy”, and a spokesperson for the ITV soap has now confirmed that they’ll be looking for a new actress to play the role.
They told The Mirror: “‘Coronation Street’ have taken the decision to recast the part of Bethany Platt.”
It was reported earlier this month that Bethany’s return to the soap would ruffle feathers right from the offset, with the teenage character showing up unannounced at the Rovers Return and tricking one Weatherfield resident into buying her a drink.
But who would have known the character’s comeback would be causing such a stir behind the scenes too..?
