Ian, who plays builder Owen Armstrong in ‘Corrie’, has said that he will be returning to his first love of writing, with a play he’s written about addiction due to hit London in the summer.

He said: “Next year I will have been playing Owen Armstrong for five years and it felt like a good point to move on. I have returned to my writing and in 2015 hope to put on a new play.”

However, it sounds like producers will be leaving the door open for his character to come back in the future, after he later added: “I would never rule out returning to the role of Owen at some point.”

‘Corrie’ producer Stuart Blackburn has promised viewers that the fiery character won’t be leaving Weatherfield quietly, revealing: “We wish Ian all the very best and there is still a lot of fantastic drama to come for him before he leaves.”

Owen’s departure will no doubt come as another blow to his long-suffering partner Anna Windass (played by Debbie Rush), who has had a difficult 2014, largely due to their strained relationship, which came after she was given an indecent proposal by his shady business partner, Pat Phelan.

It was revealed this summer that her problems will just continue getting worse in the upcoming months, when her adopted daughter Faye (played by young actress Ellie Leach) falls pregnant at just 12 years old.
