‘Coronation Street’ has killed off Michael Rodwell in a shock twist.
The character met his maker during Friday (18 November) night’s episode of the ITV soap, after enemy Pat Phelan left him for dead.
Michael (Les Dennis) was seen suffering a heart attack, after confronting Phelan at the building site, having finally discovered the details of his scams.
It seemed as though Phelan was about to kill Michael to keep him quiet, but before he had the chance, Michael doubled up in pain.
Realising his rival had suffered a heart attack, Phelan walked away from the building site without helping him.
Actor Les Dennis announced his departure from the soap back in July, amid a huge cast shake up.
“As a lifelong fan of the show, playing Michael Rodwell in ‘Coronation Street’ has been a dream come true,” he said in a statement at the time.
“Becoming part of the ITV ‘Coronation Street’ family has been a wonderful experience and my decision to leave was a hard one.
“I always knew that the time would come when I would want the freedom to do more projects, and now feels like the right time.”
Les joined the cast of ‘Corrie’ as Michael in 2014, when he burgled Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) house. In a surprise development, the pair went on to marry last year, before splitting when it was revealed Gail had hidden the identity of Michael’s real son from him.
The fall-out from Michael’s death airs on ‘Coronation Street’ on Monday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
