‘Coronation Street’ legend Roy Barraclough has slammed the soap that made him famous, stating he no longer watches ‘Corrie’.
The actor, who played Alec Gilroy for 22 years, has criticised ‘Corrie’, claiming the soap’s storylines aren’t as good as they used to be.

Speaking to the Mirror, Roy even suggested that ITV should ditch the show, responding to comments from Russell T. Davies, who suggested soaps should be axed in 10 years’ time with: “That might be a good thing.”
Roy doesn’t even watch ‘Corrie’ anymore and instead prefers to tune into dramas created by ITV’s rival channels.
“I don’t watch the show [‘Coronation Street’], it has changed so much now from what it was,” he said. “It doesn’t have a hold on me like it used to.”
“The characters have changed and it has drifted away from what it used to be – there was a lot of comedy then.
“In fact I don’t watch any of the soaps. They all follow each other, one outdoing the other. If one has a rape, the other has a rape. It’s a shame.”

Roy may have a point here, as earlier this year, ‘Coronation Street’, ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ all launched huge murder mystery storylines.
Unsurprisingly given his views on the show, Roy has ruled out returning to the cobbles.
“I don’t think it would work now. If you were to go back now, you would be so out of place,” he said.
Both actors took a break from the show in 2013, when they faced separate sex offence allegations.
Michael and Bill were both cleared of all charges and their characters will be back on screen in the coming months.
