A 14-year-old with no known underlying health conditions is among 640 more people confirmed to have succumbed to coronavirus in British hospitals.
The increase consists of 475 in England, 83 in Scotland, 73 in Wales and nine in Northern Ireland.
The teenager is known to have died on April 20, but was not included in daily updates until today due to delays in data processing and verification. It comes after 13-year-old Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab of Brixton died after testing positive for the killer virus. He, too, had no known underlying health conditions.
Some 96 of the deaths in England occurred on April 28, with 148 on April 27 and 42 the day before.
UK-wide figures from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) have not so far been released, so the total is taken from each nation’s individual reporting.
It brings the working total to 22,309.
But the government tally, when it is released, is unlikely to match this figure even with Northern Ireland taken into account. Here’s a quick primer on what all the different numbers mean and how to understand them.
Thirty of the 475 deaths in England involved patients who had not tested positive for Covid-19 but who were suspected to have it based on their symptoms. The youngest victim in England was the 14-year-old, and the oldest was 101.
Twenty-seven of the victims had no known underlying health conditions.
